Post-mortem reveals why Huddersfield man died on Christmas Day before opening his presents

Popular 33-year-old Mike Dyson had gone to a neighbour's home to enjoy the festive season when he suddenly collapsed.

The inquest opened today (Wed) into the death of a 33-year-old Huddersfield man who died on Christmas day before he could open his presents.

Mike Dyson, a quality control inspector, of Sykes Close, Almondbury, had drunk a large amount of alcohol and his formal cause of death was given as Central Nervous System Depression combined with acute alcohol toxicity or alcohol poisoning.

Coroners officer Jayne Dawson told the hearing at Bradford Coroner's Court that Mr Dyson told his family he thought he had a cold and later went to a neighbour's house to "enjoy the festive season."

The court heard he had suffered persistent headaches since he was in his teens.

Paramedics were called when the neighbour realised something was wrong but they were unable to save his life and he was pronounced dead at 8.20pm.

Senior coroner Martin Fleming said it was a "very sad death" and he adjourned the inquest with the hope that it would be resumed around April 21 as the majority of witness statements have been provided.
